Maine’s own American Idol competition is coming to the L/A area! “FOX23’s Make Me An Idol” sponsored by Q97.9 FM will be held Saturday, June 27th 10am at the Auburn Mall. The prize for our 7th annual local singing competition is a guaranteed audition for Season 9. FOX23 provides travel & accommodations for the winner and a friend to one of the official, national audition cities. This year, the winner flies to Orlando, Florida on July 8th for the July 9th audition at Amway Arena. (Note: FOX23 pays hotel and airfare for the initial audition and leaves any callback expenses to the local winner.)
This is an open audition that begins at 10am and ends at noon on a first-come, first-served basis. In order to compete, you must be between the ages of 16 and 28, a U.S. citizen, provide legal identification displaying date of birth (for example, a birth certificate and school ID card, driver's license, or passport) and reside in Maine/NH. Those under 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Contestants must also adhere to all official American Idol rules at AmericanIdol.com.
10am – 12pm Open Auditions
1pm – 3pm (Approx.) Finalists Perform & Winner Announced
All auditions are acapella. Each singer is allowed thirty seconds to sing during the open audition, one minute if he or she has advanced to the Top Twenty, and one minute up to the length of a full song during the Top Ten round. The singer chooses the song. Same song may be used through all rounds or different songs may be chosen. Adjudication is done with a 1-10 point system by a panel of judges in 3 categories; song choice, presence, and vocals.
This year’s confirmed judges include; Janet Ross, Talent Coach for the Miss America Organization, Taylor Mesple, Owner of Inner Circle Productions at The Maple Room in Lewiston, Ginger Leigh Smith, Vocalist, Lisa van Oosterum, CEO of Omnirox Entertainment and Portland Music Foundation Treasurer, and Louis Phillippe, Reindeer Records.
The public is invited to come see the best local singers compete and the new “Maine Idol” crowned. Season nine of American Idol returns to FOX23 this January. Wouldn’t it be great if the next singing superstar was from Maine?!
FOX23 WPFO hit the Maine airways on April 24, 2003 to become the first FOX affiliate in the broadcast area since 2001. Their mission is to entertain & inform thereby enhancing the lives of their viewers and clients. The station seeks to acquire, create and own content that supports this mission.
